GONE GIRL: A NOVEL (2012) is a Winner!

Gone Girl
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This is only the second book I have read on my Christmas Kindle Fire. Does etiquette still allow for the term 'page turner' or should we use 'screen swiper' now?

I've been putting off writing anything because this book is so clever and mesmerizing that I am reluctant to spoil the experience for anyone. And everybody is going to be reading it.

Basically it is two intertwined stories in the he-said/she-said form. The challenge is finding the truth. And keep in mind that no matter where you think the story is going, it isn't.

Carefully plotted and beautifully written in distinct voices, the experience reminded me of reading Scott Smith's A Simple Plan, constantly trying to figure out solutions.

All three of Gillian Flynn's books have now been optioned for movies. (No surprise there.) Here's an article at Galleycat mentioning who is attached to star and direct.

You can be assured that I will be searching out and the author's two earlier works: Dark Places and Sharp Objects.

Next Up

I have finished Gone Girl, the ultimate beach read of 2012, and need to write my review. In the meantime, I was once again enjoying the phase where I get to choose my next book.

Then I read this review on Carrie K.s blog BOOKS AND MOVIES and a new title - and a Young Adult one at that -  hopped to the top of the list. Check out what Carrie wrote HERE. The book is Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein and it sounds like a gem.
